Cleansing With Sage & Selenite
Every year during the holiday season my family and I drop off a small gift to our neighbors and friends. Many of them are probably super bummed that we aren’t dropping off my famous Holiday Honey Butter but we wanted to do something different this year. We tried to think of something useful for your body, mind and soul. I use both Sage and Selenite almost every day and wanted to share something that I find cleansing and useful with those that we love.
2020 seems to have been filled with devastating events but also beautiful growth and new opportunities every step of the way. 2020 has been the best year for our family. We’ve faced challenges, adapted, and overcome so many life events. This year has forced us to grow and we’re grateful for it. We hope that through any hardships you’re facing, you will found joy and peace.
Merry Christmas & have a Hippie New Year!
Sage
The Latin word for sage, salvia stems from the word salvare which means to feel well, heathy and heal.
Burning sage is one of the oldest methods of cleansing a person, a group of people or a space to get rid of negative energies. The practice dates back to prehistoric times and used by our ancestors all around the world.
Scientist have also observed that burning sage kills 94 percent of airborne bacteria in a space and disinfects the air. When sage is burned, it releases negative ions, which are linked to putting people in a more positive mood.
Sage contains flavonoids, plant compounds that have medicinal properties. Some of these compounds can improve your brain and help fight against Alzheimer’s disease. They can help fight depression and anxiety, soothe upset stomachs and calm the mind.
Before burning sage have a few windows or the front door open to let the smoke and negative energies have a pathway to leave.
When you’re ready to burn the sage, burn the end for about 20 seconds and then gently blow the flames out so you see only orange embers at the tips. Have a bowl underneath to catch the ashes that fall.
Then you can start cleansing your space by walking around your home or cleansing yourself.
If at any point the embers start to fade, blow into the sage stick gently to rekindle the smoke.
Selenite
The Greeks named selenite after Selene, the goddess of the moon. It was placed outside hospitals and sick rooms to keep evil spirits and other harmful energies away.
Selenite is a protective stone that defends against the influences around you. It eliminates negative energy and facilities pure, angelic energy at the same time.
Selenite is known for its powerful cleansing properties. It can be used to cleanse other crystals or clear negative energy in a space.
By placing selenite near your front door it can help clear and rejuvenate your home as visitors enter or exit the space.
This crystal has been one of my favorites this year. It’s an important one to have in your energy tool box because it doesn’t need to be recharged. No matter how many times you use it, selenite will work at the same high vibration it had on day one. Its ability to absorb and release negativity is why it’s often used in cleansing other crystals.
Selenite is also useful as a tool to recharge your own battery. Selenite quickly unblocks stagnant and negative energy throughout the whole body. It helps release the tension or worries from past emotional moments and brings calming energy with peace and mental clarity.
By placing this crystal in your hand or on your forehead before a meditation, it will align all chakras in your body. Times when its most powerful is when you’ve been around a big group of people, when experiencing anxiety, when the mind needs to declutter or to find stillness in your day.
