What is Kambo?
Kambo is a non-psychoactive traditional Amazonian medicine that is derived from the Giant Monkey Frog also called Phyllomedusa Bicolor.
Kambo comes from the frog’s skin secretion and is carefully collected without harm to the frog. The secretion is applied through superficial burns made onto the skin. The immediate effects could bring on nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, lite-headedness and other symptoms, after using Kambo participants report amazing health improvements for a variety of conditions, both physical and spiritual.
Kambo has been used to address a large spectrum of physical and emotional issues including:
Alzheimer’s disease
Parkinson’s disease
Cancer
Infertility
Chronic pain
Depression
Anxiety
Migraines
Infection
Viruses
Addiction
Blood Circulation problems
Chronic fatigue
Diabetes
Arthritis
Inflammation
Autoimmune diseases
History
The use of Kambo originated in the Amazon jungle by several groups of indigenous South American people. It was first discovered by outsiders in the 1980’s, Peter Gorman, a journalist that had been spending time with a native tribe called the Matses was one of the first to document it.
He wrote a book about his experience called Sapo in My Soul (Sapo and kambo are the same thing depending on who you’re talking to)
Kambo was initially utilized as a medicine to help the hunters of the tribe, giving them increased endurance, stamina, precise vision, increased hearing ability, a reduced need for food and water, and to mask their human scent to better sneak up on animals. It’s also applied to women and children to treat various ailments such as malaria, parasites, snake bites, fevers and infections.
The “sweat” that the frog secretes is full of peptides many that have been scientifically studied. Some of these peptides stimulate endogenous opioid receptors in a unique way, some cross the blood brain barrier and even manipulate the permeability of it, possibly working synergistically to allow other compounds from the cocktail into the brain that would not normally get through.
Many call Kambo the ultimate detoxification. It pulls stored toxins out of various organ systems and purges them out of the body in a variety of ways.
The peptides in Kambo have been identified as not toxic to human cells. However they are toxic to bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses making it a great antibiotic to detoxify the body.
How many sessions do you need?
The number of sessions you need is largely dependent on your health and goals in taking Kambo. Kambo is most effective when done in a series. For chronic health issues, doing several treatments in a short amount of time is ideal to detoxify the body of bacteria and inflammation. Some people like to do a 3 day in a row cleanse. For others with health challenges, it may be better to do 3 weeks in a row, to give them time to recover and properly detox. Some people find that once they’ve done a series doing Kambo once every 4-8 weeks is good maintenance for them. Some people do it once and never do it again. It really is up to the individual.
If you are trying to accomplish a goal with Kambo I highly suggest committing to at least 3 initial sessions. The first session is often an introduction to the frog. It’s like soaking dirty dishes before cleaning them off. Sometimes you have some old, hard and crusty gunk that needs to be softened a bit before fully cleaning it out. In the sessions following the first, people tend to get better at navigating the experience and surrendering to it, enhancing their progress and getting deeper and more effective results.
It’s absolutely okay to do Kambo once simply to try it, but I encourage those with that have a goal in mind, to commit to at least 3 sessions minimum.
What is the process?
First superficial burns are made on the skin, removing the top layer of skin exposing the lymphatic tissue. You’ll then be asked to drink a fairly large glass of water to make the process of detoxifying easier.
Next the frog secretion is applied to the open “gates” or burn marks you will quickly feel the effects of Kambo. Participants report hot flushing, increased heart rate and head pressure. You may feel nauseous which could cause you to purge through vomiting or the need for a restroom purge. You may also experience mucus production, sweating, or feel old stored emotions being released during this time. This is an important part of Kambo, to release physical and energetic toxins within the body.
The after effects can vary depending on the health of the individual but most people do have a beautiful afterglow with increased energy, better mood, reduced pain, more motivation, improved clarity, and feeling of peace and wellness. If we are working with a chronic illness there could be a few days of experiencing a heavy detox. Because Kambo is such a potent antibiotic, it kills a number of pathogenic bacteria that live in your body causing them to open and release their bio-toxins. After the die-off stage people generally feel better than before their Kambo experience.
Although Kambo is not hallucinogenic or psychoactive like other Spiritual Amazonian medicines such as Ayahuasca, there is a strong spiritual component to it. Many people receive clarity, release old stored emotions, remember things that were long forgotten, and experience uncanny synchronicities.
Is Kambo safe?
